Making Memories

Overall this was an bland but informative look into the evolution of a piece of commercial software in the face of its business needs.

The most interesting tidbit for me, however, was the brief sidebar concerning Architecture in Agile development, and the idea of "Architecture Smells" rather than just code smells. A quick trip over to Google indicates a general lack of work in this area, beyond an entry in the book "Agile Adoption Patterns" by Amr Elssamadisy, but a quick read through the relevant section shows a conceptual groundwork, but even without directly pointing them out, shows some of the difficulties of turning some of them into full blown automated structures used in the same way that many code smells are.

Makes me wonder how much research is going on in this area, especially as more and more large businesses move over to Agile.
